Nutrition

Undoubtedly the most important aspect next to physical activity for maintaining a healthy mind and body.

Then why do so many people get it wrong when it comes to nutrition?

The answer is the lack of sound knowledge, and the abundance of supposed sound knowledge that leads to confusion and misunderstanding. Here we briefly explore a few suggestions about staying healthy using a good nutrition plan.

People are overweight simply due to consuming more calories than their bodies use. Even 50 calories a day above your bodies needs can lead up to 5 lb increase in body fat over 1 year. Multiply that by say 10 years and you would be extremely overweight.

To combat weight issues using nutrition remember the following:

Small changes now = BIG changes later

Slightly reducing the amount of calories you consume on a day to day basis will make big changes later on. By reducing as little as 50 calories a day from your diet can make a lot of difference.

FAD diets unfortunately promise more than they deliver.

People are always wanting a quick fix solution and FAD diets lose you weight very quickly. This may sound fantastic but the aftermath of such diets is something to be very careful of!

Reducing the amount of calories you consume per day by too much and decreasing the amount of nutrients by depriving your body of certain foods, as laid out in certain eating plans, will lead to possible health issues including malnutrition and muscle reduction.

Muscle reduction is a serious problem with FAD dieters. The trend tends to be to FAD diet for a period of between 2 and 8 weeks and lose as much weight as you can in a short amount of time. The problems arise as the FAD dieter does not consider exercise to be an important solution to weight loss. As a result of the lack of calories and nutrition, the body actually starts to eat into the muscle tissue. Which will lead to a reduction in stabilization and general muscle strength and performance leading to more muscle related injuries.

The other main concern for FAD dieters is the fact that the diets cannot last forever and as soon as they get back onto their normal eating pattern again, the weight quite quickly comes rushing back on. By making small changes to diet and activity levels the weight will come off slower but the effects will be longer lasting and easier to maintain.

By eating a good nutritious balanced diet mixed with a moderate training program will increase your muscle tissue and decrease your body fat and provide your body with what it needs to be at a healthy state.

I can write you a diet/nutrition plan that is easy to follow but best of all, allows you to have treats once in a while.
